Challenge:
A major aircraft components manufacturer acquired a DMS 5-axis router to drill precision holes into carbon fiber and resin structures. The resultant fugitive dust condition risked compromising multiple other sensitive processes within this new high-tech facility. An earlier application of a large ducted cartridge-type collector by a major supplier had proved a costly failure.
Solution:
Air Purification Inc. applied an innovative and uniquely simple collector-system solution. A self-contained (non-ducted) backdraft airflow type Filter-1 Dustron DP air cleaner module was positioned strategically behind the large router. To enhance the performance and safety of this 12,000 CFM/12-foot-wide collector, we chose to include a custom tall floor stand, VFD, non-sparking blower, extra silencing, thermal shut-off and custom-color paint (to precisely match the router apparatus and enclosure).
Results:
Dust containment and capture at the router is now excellent. The system operates quietly and cost-efficiently. The customer is delighted with the slick matching appearance of the Dustron and by the total absence of unsightly and intrusive ductwork. The subject critical new aviation structure manufacturing factory remains pristine. In fact, the company promptly ordered an identical Dustron for a sister facility overseas.
